Bahrain Mirror: The family of Bahraini citizen from Diraz, facing enforced disappearance, Sayed Alawi Sayed Hussein, confirmed that 100 days have passed with them not being able to meet or visit him, or know his fate and whereabouts. He has been detained without charge or access to a lawyer since his arrest in October 2016.

The family added in a statement published by al-Wasat newspaper (Thursday February 2, 2017), that "the last call from [Sayed Alawi] to his family was last December 14, and lasted 5 minutes. The call before that lasted 3 minutes and was in November 28. Aside from these two calls, we haven't been in contact with him, know nothing about him, and we are worried about his health".

"We knocked all possible doors to know something about his fate, but no avail. We went to the Criminal Investigations Department in the Ministry of Justice, which did not give any information. We also went to the Public Prosecution who said it had no information about him." The family further confirmed that they did not receive any call from the Special Investigations Unit, which on its part, referred the case to the General Secretariat of Grievances.

Sayed Alawi's family said that the National Institute for Human Rights did not give them anything news, and that its chief, Abdul Aziz Abel, refused to cooperate with them since they resorted to press.

Amnesty International expressed last Friday (January 27, 2017) its grave concerns that Bahraini detainee Sayed Alawi Moussawi is a victim of enforced disappearance and is at risk of torture and other ill-treatment, and called for his release.
