Bahrain Mirror: Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Undersecretary Dr. Fareed Al-Miftah stressed that the statements issued by so-called Bahraini Ulama (clerics), are inconsistent with the national course and of no value, Bahrain News Agency (BNA) reported.

His comment came in response to a statement issued by Bahraini scholars condemning the trial of religious leader, Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassim, over Khums ritual.

The Undersecretary for Islamic Affairs called on those who collect Islamic religious resources, including Khums, Zakat, alms or donations for religious purposes, to verify the legitimacy and source of the funds, as well as ways of spending it according to the law.

They may not interfere in the means of spending it or determining its spending priorities, which is the government's responsibility to verify its legitimacy in accordance with the rule of law, BNA further reported the undersecretary as saying.
