Bahrain Mirror: Secretary General of the General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions (GFBTU), Hassan Halwachi, said that the implementation of the tripartite agreement in full requires direct intervention by the Bahraini government.

In a statement issued after meeting with a delegation from the Union's' General Secretariat, Halwachi noted, "We confirmed the importance of the tripartite agreement, and the special role played by Sheikh Mohammad bin Mubarak Al Khalifa to implement this agreement. We clarified to his Highness that there remains 40 dismissed employees in both the private and public sectors, and until now there were not given their jobs back."

"We stressed to his Highness that the complete solution of this file will be proof that we overcame the past stage and its consequences, and started a new path towards a better future", Halwachi added.

He further indicated, "We frankly said that the completion of the tripartite agreement file needs a direct and explicit intervention by the government, and cooperation from all production parties."

"Both the government and employers are represented by the International Labor Organization (ILO), which is a great asset for the Kingdom of Bahrain, and it should be a motivation for further work to finish what's left of the tripartite agreement, supervised by the ILO," the GFBTU Secretary General added.

Moreover, he indicated that in a couple of months (March 2017), three years would have passed on sealing this deal, stressed that the GFBTU has done its best on this level, especially in terms of maintaining Bahrain's reputation.

The GFBTU also discussed various Bahrain-related issues during its meeting with Sheikh Mohammad bin Mubarak Al Khalifa.
