Bahrain Mirror: The National Democratic Action Society (Wa'ad) ended its eighth conference (Fridays November 4, 2016) after its members discussed the political report and voted in favor of electing a new Central Committee responsible for electing a new Secretary General for the society.

Radi Moussawi had previously announced his intention not to be nominated again for the position of Secretary General of the society.

Al-Wasat Newspaper said that prominent opposition leader, Ibrahim Sharif, who was recently released after spending more than 5 years in prison, got the highest number of votes from the Central Committee's 30 members.

During the closing session, the "Wa'ad" discussed the political reports that highlighted the authority's attempts to "end its open political action" and turn all political societies into "decorative shops", and the authority's continuous defamation of the opposition.

The report also pointed out to what the government did in the past five and a half years, as in the first two years it issued dozens of legislations that criminalized political action. The society also indicated in its report that vast escalation led by the authorities after dialogue with the opposition was halted (in September 2014), and opposition societies decided to boycott elections. In addition, the report added how in those years, Sheikh Ali Salman, Secretary General of the biggest political society in Bahrain was arrested, al-Wefaq was dissolved, Sheikh Isa Qassim's citizenship was revoked, leading to an escalation of security measures. "Wa'ad" also discussed other matters included in its political report.
