Bahrain Mirror: The attorney general of the Public Prosecutor's technical office, Haroun al-Ziani, said that the Court of Cassation upheld (on October 17, 2016) a ruling to the appeal presented by a political society's Secretary General (Sheikh Ali Salman) in regards to the 9-year prison verdict against him. The Court ruled to overturn the verdict and return the case to the Appeal court for reconsideration, while it rejected his request to release him.
Based on the aforementioned, the High Appeal Court will look into the case again, under a different body, and the defendant will stand before it while he remains in custody.
Al-Ziani indicated that the Court of Cassation's ruling was issued, as it is considered a court of law that looks in appeals, and how much it fulfills the conditions of an appeal, in accordance with the law. He added that the court does not look into the subject of the charges, the verdict-ruling court's convictions, or the evidence held against the defendant.
