Saudi Arabia Expresses Deep Regret at Attack against Hall of Al-Sala Alkubra

Bahrain Mirror: Saudi Arabia expressed deep regret of the reported attack against the community hall of Al-Sala Alkubra in Sanaa, Yemen, that killed and injured about 700 persons.

This came in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Permanent Mission's message to United Nations Security Council about the attack on a hall in Yemeni capital, Sanaa.

The mission said in its statement published by Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on Monday (October 10, 2016) "The Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia sent a message to United Nations Security Council, on 9 October 2016, in which it expressed the Kingdom's deep regret of the attack, which reported that it occurred on the Great Hall in Sanaa."

"It also renewed its full respect and commitment to the international humanitarian law and international human rights law and the emphasis on continuing ensuring of taking all possible measures to protect civilians and civilian sites in Yemen, as well as taking corrective and appropriate necessary measures to ensure accountability, including the announcement of the results of the ongoing investigations into this incident in the near future," the statement further stated.

The message informed the Security Council of the statement issued by the Coalition Forces to restore legitimacy in Yemen which expressed its deep sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and the injured in this tragic incident and which confirmed that its troops follow strict and clear rules of engagement that ban targeting of civilians and civilian sites and take all possible measures to prevent any risks to civilians, and which announced the start of an immediate investigation and promised full cooperation with the investigation team, including providing all data and information related to the military operations that took place during the day of the incident (October 8, 2016), and in the incident area and all the surrounding areas.

The Saudi mission claimed that the coalition will not spare any efforts to work hard in order to reach a lasting political solution to the conflict in Yemen according to relevant resolutions of the Security Council, and its emphasis in this regard on the full support for the important work being done by the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed.
