Local Newspaper: Judicial Changes Take Place, Al-Zayed Chairs Appeal Court and Higher Criminal Court

Bahrain Mirror: A local Bahraini newspaper al-Wasat reported information that the Head of the Supreme Judicial Council, Head of the Court of Cassation, Counsel Salem Mohammad Al-Kuwari, issued a decision to create a new department at the Court of Civil Appeal. This department, according to the newspaper, will be presided over by Judge Ibrahim Sultan Al-Zayed, in addition to his work as head of the Fifth Higher Criminal Court.

The news department is assigned to look into 20% of the criminal cases in appeal, and the appeal cases at the Higher Criminal Court that are referred to the Court of Cassation.

The decision included the reformation of the Supreme Appeals departments follows: Second Department presided over by Judge Ibrahim Al-Qrainis, Fifth Department headed by Judge Abdul Aziz Nayem, while members of the judiciary include Abdullah a-Ashraf, Yousef Ali Ibrahim, and Salaheddine Ibrahim.

In reference to the Higher Criminal Courts, Judge Bader al-Abdullah heads the Second Higher Criminal Court, whose members include judges Wajih al-Shaer and Oman al-Saidi. Other departments remain unchanged.

With the beginning of the new judicial year, seven new judges, who graduated from the first batch within the "Future Judges" project, will start working in different courts. According to the announcement by the Head the Supreme Judicial Council, two commercial courts are scheduled to launch their work starting Sunday (September 4), and a second department at the Rent Dispute Resolution Chambers is to start its conduct in mid-September.
