Court Sentences Tweeter to Two-Year Jail Term over Insulting King on Twitter

Bahrain Mirror: A Bahraini court sentenced on Wednesday (August 31, 2016) a tweeter to two years in prison with the execution of the sentence and accused him of insulting the king and inciting hatred against the regime.

Hameed Al-Khatem was arrested on July 25 from his house in Samaheej. He was charged with posting tweets that insult the king, which is the charge usually raised against tweeters in Bahrain.

A Bahraini court sentenced Taiba Ismail to one year in prison, also fining her 1,000 Bahraini dinars, for a number of tweets she had sent on her personal Twitter account.
