2016-09-01 - 5:06 am

Bahrain Mirror: A number of Bahraini courts issued today on Wednesday (August 31, 2016) prison sentences against Shiite clerics over their participation in the open sit-in protest held outside the Bahraini Shia spiritual leader Sheikh Isa Qassim's house in Diraz.

President of the Ulama Islamic Council Sayed Majeed Al-Mashaal was sentenced to two years in prison while Sheikh Aziz Al-Khadran and Sayed Yassin Al-Musawi were both sentenced to one year.

Bahraini authorities have launched a widespread campaign targeting the Shiite-majority in the country since 3 months ago, as it dissolved the main political opposition group Al-Wefaq Society, in addition to religious Shiite societies, stripped Ayatollah Qassim of his nationality, and is banning Friday prayers at the largest Shia mosque in the island kingdom.
