Bahrain Mirror: The local Kuwaiti Al-Rai newspaper reported from White House sources that it is likely that the Congress will reverse its disapproval of the US fighter jet sales to Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain before President Barack Obama's second term comes to an end on January 17, 2017.
The local paper said that a brutal political battle is taking place behind closed doors regarding the fighter jet deal. The Obama administration had agreed, almost a year ago, to sell 76 fighter jets valued at a total of $8 billion.
The Pentagon and State Department have signed off on the separate deals, which would send 36 Boeing F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jets to Qatar, 24 Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornets to Kuwait, and 16 F-16s to Bahrain. The Qatari sale is worth roughly $4 billion, the Kuwaiti deal around $3 billion, and the Bahraini sale is valued at $1 billion. Both offers have been on the table for more than two years awaiting final approval from the White House.
