Bahrain Mirror: The Bahraini authorities continued its brutal campaign against the Shiite-majority in the country, launched in June 2016, as they summoned three prominent Shiite clerics for interrogation.
Activists on social media said that the authorities summoned Sheikh Ali Al-Hamli, Sayyed Mohsen Al-Ghoreify and Sheikh Fadel Al-Zaki. They are top Shiite clerics at the Islamic Scholars Council, the highest Shia religious institution in the country which was dissolved by the authorities in 2014.
The authorities intensified its campaign of summonings of Shia clerics since last June, after revoking the Bahrain's Shia spiritual leader Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassim, who was referred to court over arbitrary charges. The authorities has also recently arrested a number of religious scholars, namely head of the dissolved Islamic Scholars Council Sayed Majeed al-Mashaal.
