Bahrain Mirror: The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), a Bahraini state agency,  expressed concern over the increase of air and land travel bans enforced on citizens who were not summoned by judicial authority.

Noting that it takes the country's critical situation in consideration, the institution stressed that Bahrainis have the right to freedom of movement according to Article 19 of the country's Constitution, adding that the violation of this right goes against the Kingdom's international and regional commitments regarding human rights.

"A person cannot be arrested, detained, imprisoned or searched, or his place of residence specified or his freedom of residence or movement restricted, except under the provisions of the law and under judicial supervision," said the NIHR.

"Everyone shall be free to leave any country, including his own," it noted quoting Article 13 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The NIHR also urged the government to stop travel bans that are not based on a clear judicial order, violating basic human rights and freedoms.
