Bahrain Mirror: UK Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said that he raised the issues of Al-Wefaq suspension and re-arrest of Nabeel Rajab with his Bahraini counterpart.

Answering a question raised by the Labour MP Hillary Benn on June 27, 2016, Hammond said that his country is concerned by the decision to suspend the activities of the Bahraini opposition group, Al Wefaq, and freeze its assets, adding that UK encourages Bahrain to "respect the rights of political groups to operate and to seek an inclusive political dialogue."

Concerning the issue of the prominent human rights defender Nabeel Rajab, Hammond said that Britain is concerned about his recent re-arrest and it "encourages Bahrain to respect the rights of all its citizens, act proportionately in all such cases to protect the universal rights of freedom of expression, stressing that the UK continues to monitor Rajab's case as it develops."
