Bahrain Mirror: Lawyer Mohammad Al-Jeshi announced via his Twitter account that the Bahraini Public Prosecution decided today on Sunday (June 26, 2016) to refer leading human rights defender Nabeel Rajab to trial on remand next month.

Rajab will be referred to a supreme court on remand on July 12, 2016 to be prosecuted over charges of "spreading false news about Yemen," which dack back to 2015.

The authorities arrested Rajab around two weeks ago in a sudden move, and the prosecution extended his detention following the first week for eight additional days pending investigation. The prosecution rejected a request by Rajab's lawyer to release him due to his health condition.

The re-arrest of the prominent rights activist has prompted criticism from the island kingdom's close ally, the United States, as well as a number of European countries and the United Nations.
