Bahrain Launches Widespread Campaign against Shiite Clerics

Bahrain Mirror (Exclusive): The Bahraini authorities summoned on Wednesday (June 16, 2016) a number of Shiite Clerics for interrogation, as part of a widespread campaign launched by the authorities, since the suspension of the religious Shiite societies: the Enlightenment (Tawiya) and Al-Risala.
The authorities summoned the head of the Enlightenment Islamic Society (Tawiya) Sheikh Baqer Al-Hawaj for interrogation and then released him. They also summoned head of Sheikh Isa Qassim's office, Sheikh Hussein Al-Mahrous.
The head of the dissolved Ulama Islamic Council Sayed Majeed Al-Mashaal was also summoned for interrogation and Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Ansari as well. The security authorities also raided Sheikh Hassan Al-Maleki's home.
This nationwide campaign launched by the authorities against Shiite clerics included new restrictions imposed upon the religious scholars and a ban issued against Sheikh Mohammad Sanqour, preventing him from performing Friday prayers at the Imam Sadiq Mosque.
