Bahrain Mirror: Member of the Bahraini Public Prosecution's Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Ibrahim Al-Kuwari stated that the Fifth Minor Criminal Court issued a verdict on Sunday (January 31, 2016), sentencing two policemen to six months in prison over charges of assaulting a detainee.
The SIU said that it received on July 10, 2014 a phone call from one of the pre-trial detainees in Dry Dock Prison, reporting an assault by a number of policemen in the prison. Immediately after the complaint, a member of the SIU headed to the detention center and launched an investigation. He met with the complainant and listened to his statement and the details surrounding the incident, and thus interrogated the accused policemen. The detainee was examined by a forensic doctor who confirmed that the injuries matched his statement. Therefore, the SIU referred the accused policemen to the criminal court over charges of assault.
