BCHR: 42 Citizens Arrested within First Week of January 2016

Bahrain Mirror: The Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR) stated that the Bahraini authorities have arrested 42 citizens including 5 children within the first week of January, 2016.
In its statement, BCHR added that 43% of these citizens were arrested when the security forces clamped down on a rally voicing solidarity with the prominent Saudi Shiite cleric Sheikh Nimr Al-Nimr who was executed by the Saudi regime on the onset of 2016.
The center stressed that in the period between January 4 to 10, 2016, the authorities issued sentences amounting to a total of 30 years and half a year against 6 citizens while sentencing 3 others to life imprisonment.
"The Bahraini courts adjourned the trials of 4 citizens including the prominent dissident and former secretary-General of the National Democratic Action Society (Wa'ad), Ebrahim Sharif, and Secretary-General of the National Democratic Unity Gathering Society, Fadhel Abbas," BCHR further stated.
