Bahrain Mirror: The Bahraini High Appeals Court upheld the prison term issued against Said Al-Hayki (45 years old), from Samaheej, who was sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment over charges of manufacturing homemade bombs and detonating the explosives in the Gudaibiya area.

The Public prosecution referred Al-Hayki, who holds a Saudi passport, to court after it accused him of the possession and manufacture of explosives with unknown suspects for terrorist aims and detonating a bomb for that purpose as well.

The prosecution also accused him of deliberately, with other unknown suspects, setting fire to vehicles, endangering people's lives and properties, and manufacturing homemade bombs to be used for terrorist aims, threatening stability, damaging properties, terrorizing citizens and residents and putting their lives in danger.

The authorities alleged that Al-Hayki, along with other unknown suspects, on November 7, 2012, planted a homemade bomb in the Gudaibiya area, behind a number of parked vehicles in a private parking lot and detonated the bomb, setting fire to two cars with causing any injuries.

This was the second sentences issued against Al-Hayki who was previously handed down a 15-year prison term over another alleged bombing in Al-Adliya area.

Human rights organizations challenge the charges raised against the suspects since they doubt the independence of the judiciary, whose members are assigned by royal decrees, and since it issues sentences based on confessions extracted under duress and evidence presented by secret investigations and anonymous witnesses.
