Bahrain’s MoI Says Courts Acquitted 67% of its Accused Members

2015-11-28 - 4:11 am

Bahrain Mirror: The Interior Ministry Legal Affairs Director Rashid Mohammed Bunajma said that the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) has so far referred 45 cases to competent courts since its establishment three years ago.

The courts have acquitted the defendants in 23 cases and issued 12 convictions while 10 other cases are still pending, i.e. the courts issued acquittals in 67% of the cases which were referred to them.

It is noteworthy that the Bahraini courts have acquitted people involved in killing protestors with gunfire or under torture. Amnesty described this as "fake justice".
