Bahrain Mirror: The local Bahraini Al-Wasat newspaper reported on Sunday (October 11, 2015), from a number of butchers that "the Bahrain Livestock Company disposed of 300 frozen cattle meat imported from Australia mid last week," adding that "it disposed of a large number of Australian sheep which died in the barns of the company in Sitra."

"The company halted the slaughterhouse's work since about a week ago and only limited the slaughter to 15 a day to complete a number of orders after it used to slaughter from 700 to 1200 livestock daily during the period before subsidies were lifted."

"300 frozen cattle were disposed of as it took more than 5 days to reach from Australia and since there is decreasing demand among consumers and butchers, the company stored them in freezers. The limited time for storing them in the containers ended, so the company was forced to dispose of them since it can only be stored for 4 days or else it will expire," the butchers added.

"The number of livestock is decreasing daily due to a continuous rise in demand before lifting subsidies, but now since the butchers and consumers are boycotting meat products, dozens of sheep have died after keeping them for long periods of time in a hotter weather than they were adapted to in Australia."
