Newly-appointed UK Ambassador to Bahrain: Bahrain Faces Terror Threats

2015-10-05 - 11:01 p

Bahrain Mirror: The newly-appointed UK Ambassador to Bahrain Simon Martin said that Bahrain "deals with terror threats that jeopardize its security and stability just like other countries of the world do, stressing that countries have the right to defend the aspirations of their citizens to live in a secure and stable atmosphere through eradicating terrorism which is considered the most serious infringement on human rights."

The ambassador's speech came during a visit he paid to the Bahraini Prime Minister Khalifa bin Salman who discussed with him "enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the trade and economic fields, as well as local and regional issues."

Human rights activists accuse the UK of conspiring with Bahrain's government and contributing to polishing its notorious human rights record in return for signing more contracts and agreements.

At the end of 2014, Britain signed an agreement with Bahrain to establish a military base in the Bahraini capital Manama. Meanwhile, activists considered that the price of this agreement that the UK had to pay was defending Bahrain's government that oppresses the Shiite majority and faces reform demands with excessive force and suppression.
