2015-10-02 - 5:05 p

Bahrain Mirror: The chairman of the Parliamentary committee for reviewing the policy of redirecting subsidies and developing governmental revenues, Sheikh Majed Al-Majed, said that he was surprised that the government began implementing its decision to lift subsidies on meat without making an agreement with the committee he is heading, pointing out that the committee was given promises by the government that the decision will not be implemented unless there is a consensus on the matter.

In light of what the committee discovered, he said, that the government is not prepared to face the consequences and requirements of the decision's implementation. He added that the committee decided to raise its report to the parliament speaker and requested that it be presented to the parliament.

Al-Majed further stated that the committee had previously addressed the government asking for comprehensive information and a detailed report about the commodities and products which will have the subsidies redirected and modified, in addition to providing a strategic plan of action for developing government revenues, yet the committee didn't receive the complete information.

The implementation of the decision is supposed to begin on Thursday (October 1, 2015), as part of wide governmental procedures to lift subsidies on commodities and main services provided to citizens in an attempt to reduce the budget deficit.
