Bahrain Mirror: Al-Ayam newspaper, owned by the Bahraini King's advisor, journalist Nabeel Al-Hamer, said there is a governmental inclination to lift the subsidies on electricity starting from January 2016.
"The government's redirection of subsidies on electricity will increase the number of citizens who benefit from the government's electricity support," pointing out that the government will save more than 650 million BD from the process of redirecting government subsidies on commodities and fuel," the newspaper added.
The newspaper went on to say that "the competent committee in the Parliament and the electricity and water authority have agreed that the money that can be saved by lifting subsidies amounts to 200 million BD only from the electricity and water sector," explaining that the parliamentary committee has discussed "amending the supported tariff 0-3000 units currently for 3 fils and expanding the second tranche whose tariff is for 9 fils from 3001 to 5000 units."
