Calls by UN HR High Commissioner Led to Release of Sheikh Maitham Al-Salman

Bahrain Mirror: Reports revealed that calls were made on Saturday (August 8, 2015) between the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Bahraini government, leading to the release of Sheikh Maitham Al-Salman, Head of the Religious Freedom Unit of Bahrain Human Rights Observatory, who was arrested at Bahrain airport on August 8, 2015.
Commenting on this matter, Al-Salman said: "I would like to greatly thank the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, international organizations and human rights defenders everywhere."
On his own Twitter account, Al-Salman posted: "I thank your noble stances and sincere feelings, and I promise to adhere to the humanitarian principles and values that protect dignity of human beings and develop societies."
Al-Salman was arrested at Bahrain's International Airport on Saturday (August 8, 2015) upon his return from a trip abroad during which he participated in international human rights events. Al-Salman was taken to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Al-Adliya area before the authorities released him.
