Wa’ad Calls for the Release of Student Detained by Bahraini Authorities

Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain's National Democratic Action Society "Wa'ad" called on the Bahraini authorities to release the prisoner of conscience, student Mohammad Ali Ismail. In a statement issued on Saturday (July 11,2015), Wa'ad said: "He was arrested on Friday, July 10, 2015, after he had graduated from high school with a rank of 99% and had been nominated for a Crown Prince scholarship."

Wa'ad called for "his immediate release, honoring him for his hard work and perseverance and granting him a scholarship so that he would be able to carry on his educational journey and contribute to the development of his country." The society also demanded that "all detained students be released to continue their education."

Wa'ad reiterated its call, urging "security forces to stop hunting down students" and "launch a widespread youth dialogue based on what was agreed upon in the National Action Charter and the National Strategy for Young."

Ismail had been previously arrested a year ago while returning to his house. He was detained for three weeks and released during the appeal of the verdict. After the court of appeals issued the sentence , he turned himself in to serve his remaining term, which was three months prior to the start of the school year and admission to college. It is worth mention that Mohammad Ali Ismail is detainee Mohammad Ali Rady Ismail's son who is sentenced to 15 years in prison along with other opposition figures.
