New Document: Manama Informs Amman It Will Dismiss a Jordanian Police Battalion

Bahrain Mirror (Exclusive): Bahrain decided to dismiss one of the Jordanian gendarmerie battalions to which the island kingdom resorted in order to help quell the protests that erupted since 2011.

Bahrain Mirror managed to get hold of a document issued by the Bahraini Ministry of Interior on May 6, 2015 in which it asked Jordan to withdraw the "The Second Gendarmerie Foreign Special Tasks Battalion/4" starting from June 1, 2015.

This decision does not include withdrawing the remaining Jordanian forces which Bahrain's Interior Ministry depends on to secure a number of sites including prisons that hold about 3 thousand political prisoners.

The document which is a letter from the Bahraini Interior Minister, Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, addressed to his counterpart the Interior Minister of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Hussein Hazza' Al-Majali, explains that this request was made due to "the security stability the Kingdom of Bahrain is now witnessing."

"It had a prominent role in contributing with the General Security forces in Bahrain to maintain security and stability," said the Bahraini interior minister describing the battalion.

The document reflects an admission that the Jordanian forces took part in the direct crackdown on pro-democracy protests after the two countries had stressed that their presence is "within the framework of coordinated training programs aimed at exchanging expertise and raising the qualifications of security forces of both states."

A number of detainees in Jaw Central Prison stated that Jordanian forces committed atrocities against them after the riot erupted on March 11, 2015.

Bahrain Mirror had published detailed documents in April 2014 on one of the Jordanian Gendarmerie battalions deployed in Bahrain, whose members reach 499.The documents disclosed their names and the total of salaries they are paid, which amounts to 700 BD every month (around 1.8 million and 800,000 USD).

The following is the text of the document and a copy of it:
