Bahrain’s High Criminal Court modified a sentence issued against a Jordanian student over charges of promoting the views of the terrorist Islamic State in Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) organization.

The family of detainee Khalil Al-Halwachi filed a complaint to the Bahrain Ombudsman Office regarding the infestation of insects, especially cockroaches in the pre-trial detention center at Dry Dock Prison.

Bahrain’s Court of Cassation accepted on Monday (January 18, 2016) the appeal submitted by lawyer Wafaa Marhoon over the verdict issued by the Court of Appeals, sentencing 18 suspects from the island of Nabih Saleh to prison terms ranging between 5 and 7 years.

The United Nations News Centre published a report about a phone call between the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Khalid Bin Ahmad Al Khalifa, explaining that Ban urged the Bahraini Government to “take further measures to foster peaceful political dialogue amongst all Bahrainis.”

Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces said that “Bahrain’s Foreign Minister should solve his country’s problems instead of interfering in Iraq’s internal affairs”, pointing out that “those statements are considered to be a blatant interference in Baghdad's affairs.
